Introduction
The GetiSightTM Tracking system is a complete hardware and software solution for tracking your family vehicle. The GetiSightTM tracking device installed in your car uses GPS satellite data to compute its location and speed. This information and more can be accessed through your private log in to the GetiSightTM website. On the website you can track your vehicle, monitor the status of your device, and create your own personal E-mail and cellular phone text message alerts based on your vehicle’s location, speed, and more.
While the vehicle is in motion, the tracker reports its position, speed, heading and time to the GetiSightTM website approximately every thirty seconds if it is traveling above 30mph. For speeds between 10mph and 30mph, the tracker will report every ¼ mile traveled, and for speeds below 10mph, the tracker will report every 1/8 mile traveled.*
When the tracker is stationary, it will report its position to the GetiSightTM website approximately every hour.*
In addition to reporting on motion, the tracker will notify the GetiSightTM website when the ignition key is turned on or off or when it has switched to its internal battery. Refer to the section on Route Markers for information about how to read the detailed data that is sent from your GetiSightTM tracking device to the website.
* Reporting times are
approximate and are subject to change.
The indicator lights on your GetiSightTM tracking device (see Error! Reference source not found. ) give you information about how the device is working.
· The USR1 light is steady GREEN when the device can communicate with the GetiSightTM website server.
· The USR2 light is steady RED when the device can see GPS satellites.
· The GPS ON light is steady RED when the device is powered.
Your GetiSightTM tracking device has the following input/output features (shown in Error! Reference source not found.):
· Antennas connections for both the cellular network antenna and the GPS antenna (both antennas are combined in one unit with separate feed lines).
· Power connection to provide switched and un-switched +12V power to the unit.

Your GetiSightTM tracking device contains an internal battery to keep the device operating even if it has been disconnected from vehicle power. When the device detects that it is operating from its internal battery, it switches to a timed reporting mode, reporting every ten minutes until the battery is exhausted (about 3 hours).
GPS Tracking is accomplished through communication with an array of global positioning satellites. For this reason, it is important that your device be mounted with a clear view of the sky. Any time sky view is obstructed (e.g. the device is stowed in the glove compartment, the vehicle is parked in a garage, or the vehicle is driven through a tunnel) the GetiSightTM device may not be able to receive the signals from the necessary satellites, and an accurate “fix” on your vehicle’s position may not be possible.
The GetiSightTM website allows you to display the locations of your device(s) on a map powered by Google Maps™. This section provides instructions for logging in to the website, including initial sign in for first time users, as well as information on using the web controls provided. We highly recommend that first time users read through the entire manual before use. The website is designed with predetermined defaults. Once you are familiar with the website, we recommended that you set your own custom preferences.
The GetiSightTM website login page at getiSight.com/tracker can be seen in Figure 1 below.

Figure 1 - GetiSightTM Login Page
You already have an GetiSightTM Account! When your unit was sent to you, a GetiSightTM website account was automatically setup for you and a Welcome EMAIL was sent to the EMAIL account you provided. The Welcome EMAIL contains your temporary Username and a Password. You should change your password to one you can remember the very first time you log in. You can change your Username or Password from the My Profile menu selection.
To log in to your GetiSightTM website account, follow the steps below:

Figure 2 - Logging In
NOTE: This option is not recommended if other people have access to the computer you are using to log in. See Keeping Your Data Safe below.
If you order additional devices, you can specify whether you want them to be added to an existing account. When shipped to you, the new device(s) will automatically appear when you log in to your account. Having your account number handy will expedite the ordering process. You can find it in the My Profile configuration menu. See Updating Your Profile.
The GetiSightTM tracking device tracks the location of your vehicle as long as the device is powered on. This information, while a valuable family resource, could also be dangerous in the wrong hands. Stalkers, thieves, or anyone with criminal intent could use the information to maliciously locate your vehicle and its passengers. It is your responsibility to keep your personal Username and Password secure to prevent unauthorized surveillance of your vehicle.
When you have logged in successfully, you will be directed to the map, Figure 3 shows an annotated version of the map showing the basic controls and features outlined in the following section. When you first sign in, you will see your vehicle in the center of the map.
Note: the very first
time you sign in, if your tracker hasn’t had a clear view of the sky for at
least two minutes, you may find your vehicle off the coast of

Figure 3 - Your Map
Upon signing in, the current position of your vehicle is marked by a small picture of a car shown in the center of your screen as shown in Figure 4. Your map is, by default, centered on your vehicle. You may change the icon displayed for each device by selecting from several icons in the Manage Devices configuration menu. See Configuration Menus.

Figure 4 – Initial Position
A colored line matching the color of your car icon shows the route your vehicle has traveled.
NOTE: Your route is traced by a straight line connecting one position logged by the GetiSightTM tracking device after another. This line may not necessarily follow the contours of the roads shown on map images powered by Google Maps™. This is normal, and is not an indication that your vehicle has gone off the road.
Markers along your traveled route:
· Indicate the direction your vehicle was driving
· Are color coded to indicate how fast your vehicle was driving
· Can be clicked to provide information about your vehicle at that point in time (see Figure 5 below)
Figure 5 - Your Route Markers
Clicking the View Data Detail option in your marker information bubble provides a window as shown in Figure 6 below containing a table of data from your device that includes:
· Vehicle Speed
· The Device Time, the date and time the data was transmitted
· The Odometer recording mileage the device has traveled since initialization
· The Latitude and Longitude of the device at the time of transmission
· A Status message that records the reason the device sent the data.
· The vehicle Heading measured in degrees east of north
· The GPS Status:
· Invalid indicates no satellite fix and no previous fix to reference
· Valid indicates a valid fix
· Last Valid indicates that positional information is taken from a previous valid fix
· An indication of the number of Satellites the device is receiving data from.
· On some devices, a Battery Level indication is shown.

Clicking help will bring up a window containing links you can click to access a number of help and information resources for your GetiSightTM tracking system, as shown in Figure 37.

Figure 37 - Help Menu
The GetiSightTM tracking system is a valuable resource for monitoring the most important people in your life. It can be a helpful tool for allowing the parents of teenaged drivers to stay informed of their children’s locations and driving habits. In providing this resource, however, the makers of the GetiSightTM tracking system are in no way advocating the propriety or effectiveness of any particular parenting style.
Logging in to the GetiSightTM website will immediately bring you to your map, displaying a map with the current location of your vehicle in the very center. To view areas of the map outside of this view (for example, to trace the route your vehicle has traveled beyond the current map boundaries) follow the instructions found in Zooming and Panning.
· Zooming in gives you a more detailed view of the map while zooming out gives you a wider view, covering more geographical area.
· Panning moves the center of the map north, south, east, or west to allow you to see geographical features in those directions.
If you would rather see a particular geographical area stationary
on your map regardless of where your vehicle is, follow the guidance for
keeping your map stationary provided in step 3 of Changing Your Map Settings.
The ability to find your vehicle on the map provided by the GetiSightTM website at any time and to trace the route your vehicle has traveled over any timeframe allows you to:
· Keep track of how well your young drivers are following the boundaries you set on their newly-earned driving privileges and
· Monitor the safety of your family and vehicle.
In addition to the ability to know at any time where your vehicle is, GetiSightTM tracking system provides you with the ability to customize this product to the boundaries you set by allowing you to set up alert notifications sent to you via e-mail, cell phone text messages, or both.
Using the GeoFence features, you can create alerts that notify you when your vehicle enters an area that is off limits or leaves an area where it is supposed to be at certain times and days
For guidance in using these features, see Creating Alerts.
The GetiSightTM tracking device and website provide multiple ways to monitor your vehicle’s speed, both from your computer and inside your vehicle.
· The arrows and stop icons shown along your vehicle’s route on the map are color coded by travel speed, and can be clicked to give a speed reading for your vehicle at the time that position was logged. See Route Markers.
· You can create your own custom alert that will notify you via e-mail or a text message to your cell phone when your vehicle exceeds a speed you have set for that alert. See New Speeding Alert for guidance on this option.
· The device will emit a beep when it detects that your vehicle is traveling at or over a user-determined speed. To set this speed see Managing Your Registered Device(s). You may also instruct the device to beep when an alert condition is detected. See Creating Alerts.
The GetiSightTM website allows you to enter the odometer reading from your vehicle(s) (see step 8 of Managing Your Registered Device(s)) and then provides an approximate reading of the mileage on your car along with speed and location when you click a route marker on your map.
NOTE: Your route is calculated by measuring as the crow flies between positions along the route, approximately every two seconds. Therefore your vehicle’s exact travel path may be slightly different (typically longer) than the path measured by the device. False GPS readings can also affect the accuracy of the odometer. If you use the odometer feature, it is important to periodically check the reading on your vehicle’s odometer and update, if necessary, your entry on the GetiSightTM website.
The GetiSightTM tracking device and GetiSightTM website are provided as a valuable resource for monitoring the use of your vehicle(s). GPS technology allows an excellent approximate location and speed for the device, but it is important to remember that speeds and positions are not always exact. The device makes a data transmission roughly every 30 seconds, but does not provide information between those transmissions. For this reason, you will notice that the points of data transmission marking your routes are connected with straight lines as the crow flies and only approximate the path your vehicle has traveled. You will also notice that even when your vehicle is stationary, your device may transmit a slightly different position from one scheduled data transmission to the next. This is magnified if your vehicle is in a parking garage, or your garage at home. This is normal behavior for your device, and should not prevent the GetiSightTM tracking system from being an effective tool for tracking your vehicle.
Two simple ways of preventing the tracker from logging the vehicle’s route are:
· Removing power to the device so that it shuts off and does not log driving events
· Moving the device to an alternate power source (such as another vehicle)
The GetiSightTM tracking device does not stop working just because you unplug it from your vehicle, but will simply switch to battery power. It is capable of operating normally for several hours from its battery. When the device switches to battery power, it posts this fact to the GetiSightTM website[1]. You will see this indication in the Status column of the detailed data. See Route Markers. You can use this information, along with comparing the odometer reading from the website with the actual reading on the car at some later time, to help you decide if your teen is trying to prevent you from seeing where he or she has been.
Jack wants to receive a text message on his cell phone when Jill arrives at school in the morning and leaves in the afternoon. He creates a GeoFence alert following the steps below.

Figure 38 - GeoFence Example
Jack will now receive a text message on his cell phone when Jill’s vehicle enters or leaves the GeoFence around her school.
Jill has received a warning for driving too fast through her family’s neighborhood. But it’s hard for even experienced drivers to remember to slow down enough, after leaving the freeway on the way home from a long day at school or work. Since Jill loses track of how fast she is driving, Jill and her father agree to set an alert that will cause the GetiSightTM tracker in her car to send him a text message when she drives over 30 mph, but only in the her neighborhood around her house and school, following the steps below:

Figure 39 – Speeding and GeoFence Alert Example
The GetiSightTM tracking device in Jill’s vehicle will send a text message alert to her father each time the device detects a speed above 30, when she is within the boundaries drawn around her route home from school, after leaving the freeway.
NOTE: All conditions defined in setting up the alert must be true for an alert to be sent.
NOTE: Alerts are generated when the device sends a status message that meets the alert conditions. This may take up to 30 seconds from the time conditions are met to the time the alert is sent. These alerts can only serve as helpful tools, and cannot substitute for learned safe driving habits.
If you encounter any difficulty in using the GetiSightTM tracking system, please review applicable sections in this manual and verify that your device installation and website account settings are correct. If the problem persists, refer to the sections below for help.

unit?
Q: Your unit
will work anywhere within the

A: What if I am outside
of AT&T GPRS coverage area for a short time?
Q: Your unit contains a store-and-forward capability that will remember each time the unit posts data. When the device comes back into range, it will re-transmit all of the posts that were attempted when the devices was out of range to the server and they will appear on the map.
Q: My unit didn’t follow the road for several miles, was my vehicle in
flight?
A: No, don’t worry, your vehicle was on the road, the problem was probably just the GPS failing to get an adequate fix. We call these “flyovers.” There can be several reasons this happened:
1.
Your unit isn’t getting a good enough view of the
sky. Try repositioning the antenna until
you get reports from the unit that show six or more satellites in the Data
Detail.
2.
If your flyover occurs consistently after leaving a
location where the unit has been idle for more than an hour, the flyover is
likely due to a normal time-to-first-fix.
We expect the unit to begin to be able to calculate it’s location from
the satellite data within about a minute.
In certain cases due to satellite positioning, weather conditions, the
length of time the unit is off, etc, this could take up to two minutes or maybe
slightly longer if the unit doesn’t have a clear view of the sky. If this is the case, try the suggestions from
# 1.
3. Your unit has lost sync with the cellular network. As with cell phones, there are times when the connection gets dropped, more likely due to network conditions, switching cell towers, etc. Under certain circumstances, the unit cannot detect that it has been dropped from the network for several minutes. There are safeguard mechanisms that detect this outage and force a re-connect, but during the outage no postings occur. If this occurs consistently, contact technical support.
